 PROSECUTOR OF THE YEAR  /  ELIZABETH BARNES  AWARD,

Elizabeth Barnes known by most as "Liz"  was the type of person that you meet once in a lifetime.  Caring, strong, passionate, zealous advocate for truth and justice and all-around amazing person.  Elizabeth Barnes received a scholarship to attend George Washington University Law School, in Washington, D.C. From there, she was admitted to the bar in Massachusetts in 2013. That same year, she started to work at the Middlesex DA’s Office.  Elizabeth Barnes spent time in Lowell and Ayer District courts. She also became involved with the office’s Juvenile and Young Adult Diversion Program, designed to work with eligible young offenders as an alternative to prosecution.  Liz passed away tragically in a plane crash in 2020  The First Barnes Award was given out in 2022

 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD  / ALBERT MARCOTE, AWARD

Albert J. Marcotte has been a leader in the Lowell legal community for decades. A lifelong resident of Lowell,   First Awarded in 2012

COURT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AWARD  /  ​BRIAN DUNIGAN  AWARD, 

Brian Dunnigan was a court employee that would go above and beyond for everyone he meet.

The court employee of the year  was first award in 1990 to Dunigan. Next year, it was renamed Dunigan Award and he presented it until he died in May 1996.  This award is given each year to the Court Employee of the Year

LAWYER OF THE YEAR AWARD  ​/ NORMAN D'AMOUR AWARD,

Attorney D’Amour practiced criminal and civil law while in private practice with Attorney Edward R. Dean, Jr. (retired).   The Lawyer of the Year Award started in 1991 and Renamed the D'amour award in 1995,  CPCS Attorney Daniel E. Callahan received the first ever D’Amour Award, the year after Norm’s untimely death from cancer. Attorney Callahan fondly recalls his former friend and colleague as ‘soft-spoken, hardworking, someone who really cared about his clients and who paid meticulous attention to detail in his cases.’ Callahan remembers D’Amour as “a person you liked to see when you were in court. He was very engaging, and he truly enjoyed being a lawyer.” This award was named in honor of Attorney Normand D’Amour, who passed away in 1994 at age 47.
